Blowing Rock Brewery is the brainchild of co-founders Todd Rice and Jeff Walker. The idea began with a simple premise—to brew the best beer in the High Country.
About a decade ago, Walker and his wife decided to relocate their family to Western North Carolina. Upon moving, however, Walker realized that one thing was missing. There were no breweries in the Boone or Blowing Rock area.
Rice and Walker decided to do something about the lack of craft beer in the High Country. With Rice’s background in hospitality and Walker’s background in beer and wine, the duo began working on the beginning stages of Blowing Rock Brewery.
“It really, at the time, all started with getting a leading craft brew distributer, which in our case is Tryon distributing, getting them behind us. It’s not the easiest thing in the world to do, but we did,” Walker said.
Finding a distributer and having a good relationship with the people you distribute to is crucial when first building a brand like Blowing Rock Brewery.
“We’re building a regional brand here—and that brand is based upon not only our brewing styles and our brewing identity, but the wonderful High Country,” Walker said. “And I think with our Blowing Rock brand, we encompass Blowing Rock and the surrounding area and all of the outdoor adventure.”
Blowing Rock Brewery is a lifestyle brand. This means the company supports local outdoor activities such as hiking, skiing, mountain biking and much more.
The tagline for the brewery has always been “go to the mountains.” Essentially, this means the company is inviting customers back to the High Country every time the take a sip of their beer.
